On Thursday October 18 excavation was started at 7:00 AM, great progress, the entire footprint was excavated to solid bearing undisturbed sand. All remains of the old septic field and septic tank have been removed from the excavation area. Horizon Geotechnical requested a minimum of 6" of 2" road crush gravel under all footings, in the area closest to the canal this required almost 2 ft of gravel. All gravel was compacted with the 5 ton vibrating compactor. The top of the concrete wall near the old road will be 8-10 " above the level of the road, due to the slope of the land the towards the canal, the top of wall is 2 ft 8" above the gravel. Dirt from the basement excavation and road construction will be used to re-grade the area around the house to give it a natural elevation with a 8-10" exposure of the concrete frost wall.
